Ready. Set. Launch into the exhilarating world of the Grid at TRON Lightcycle / Run.
>◎//: Welcome users. >//@ the Grid has now Launched at Walt Disney World. Ready. SET. LAUNCH! ......transferring experience data now.
I was lucky enough to experience the Grid in person on April 4th of 2023, opening day for the Light Cycle Run was pretty chill but overall it's a fun and rather a short thrill ride, more on that later. I want to share my personal experience with this amazing new thrill ride at Walt Disney World.
Ride Accommodations:
With much circulation and anticipation for this ride, many who are my size and shape had pause and concern to see if they could even fit on the light cycle. Luckily prior to entering the Grid, there's a light cycle out in front that you can line up and try to get on prior to entering the ride queue. I had to check this out to see, I'm the type of person that needs to know before I go. So I am rather short in stature and while that was a benefit for sure when they locked me onto the cycle, I experienced significant discomfort in my calves, thighs, and back. Rather than "endure it for a minute" I decided to go for the accessibility seat which is located at the very back. When you're entering the grid to hop on the ride, you'll want to alert a cast member that you need an accessible seat to enjoy the ride. Keep in mind they make your entire party stick together and enter the grid together.
Digitize Your Mickey Ears:
Your backpacks, Mickey and Minnie Ears, and Disney Merch unfortunately cannot accompany you on this ride, they'll be digitized and transported in a unique locker system that will be accessible after you've exited the Grid. The best part is you don't even need to memorize a unique code! You simply tap your magic band, Magic Mobile, or Key to the World card to open and close the locker, keep in mind you'll want to make sure you place everything you don't want or need in the locker, as anything bigger than a cellphone won't fit in the pockets or compartments in front of you.
Fast Fingers:
There are two ways to race your lightcycle, Virtual Queue and Lightning Lane. Both open at 7 AM (if you're staying at a Walt Disney Resort Hotel) If you want to score both then I highly recommend you and your party split up who will try to tackle either option. Make sure at least 2 people in your party have everyone connected in their friends and family so that whoever wants to join can enter the Grid without complications. You'll definitely want fast fingers to accomplish this task. Once you've received a notification that you were successful, you'll be placed in a virtual queue that will assign your party a group/boarding number. You'll receive notifications once your group/boarding number has been called to enter The Grid. I highly recommend saving your Lightning Lane if possible for an evening ride.
//<THE GRID>//;
I won't give away too much but the queue is definitely super cool when you enter. It's such a cool way to enter a ride at a Disney Park. It hypes you up for the ride itself and gets you excited about what you're about to hop on. While it definitely feels comparable to the Guardians of The Galaxy ride and Space Mountain it's a genre all on its own. The ride is fast, and super thrilling but unfortunately, it's a very short track. It's a very smooth ride, but for me the launch was rather like being shot out of a canon lol it shocked me a bit but then as I was on the grid I enjoyed it. You'll notice some familiar sounds, images, and sights if you're familiar with the films. When you enter the Tron LightCycle area in Tomorrowland, it truly feels like a universe on its own. It very much reminded me of what Disney Parks has done with Avengers Campus, the music changes, your mood shifts, and you're suddenly enveloped with this feeling that you're Sam Flynn searching for Kevin Flynn.
